The Clarks Original desert boot has long been considered an iconic fashion statement and London based pattern specialists Patternity have once again collaborated with the high street giant for AW14.
The collection comprises of just two designs, working with minimal colour palettes to draw attention to the monochrome micro print that has been assembled to Nathan Clarks classic for a fresh and current concept. A modern and innovative outlook, yet still in-keeping with Clarks original design back from 1949 which has still remained consistent throughout various fashion eras.
Founded in 2009 by photographer Anna Murray and product designer Grace Winteringham, Patternity started off as the world’s leading image pattern archive and has since expanded to a pattern consultancy department, an events and education hub and a creative studio. Speaking of the collection, co-founder Murray said: “This is the second season we have worked with the Clarks Originals desert boot and this season we wanted to go much deeper with our exploration of pattern. We’re really excited about our Clarks Originals Pioneers project. We hope at the end it’s a bit of a call to action and it would be really exciting to see whether people take on the Patternity manifesto and start getting more inspired by the patterns that surround them.”
A follow-up to a successful and highly acclaimed SS14 collection, this time Patternity chose a smaller pattern template compared to the vibrant circular and square shapes for Spring/Summer. This seasons print is a lot smaller, however both collections are instantly recognisable and versatile for the Clarks customer: “Having learnt so much about designing wearable patterns last season it was an exciting challenge to play around with the final application even further – this time we wanted to zoom in even closer with the texture and micro scale of the print for AW14,” explains the co-founders.
Clean but strong designs place a unique appeal on an historic element of fashion and Patternity’s wearable patterns being introduced once again on a global market within the Clarks brand is something they are very proud of.
